Performance of Hybrid ARQ for NDMA Access Schemes with Uniform Average Power Control

چکیده
Traditionally, a packet with errors, either due to channel noise or collisions, is discarded and needs to be retransmitted, leading to performance losses. Network Diversity Multiple Access (NDMA) handles collisions by combining a multipacket detection scheme with time diversity. In NDMA, the Base Station (BS) forces mobile terminals (MTs) to transmit P copies of each packet when P MTs collide. Diversity combining is limited to P copies of the packets, not allowing it to adapt to severe errors due to channel noise. This paper considers a multipacket detection scheme recently proposed, which reduces the Packet Error Rate (PER) when more than P packet copies are available. In this paper, a Hybrid-ARQ NDMA (H-NDMA) access mechanism is proposed. The access mechanism forces MTs with reception errors during a collision resolution epoch to transmit more than P times. Analytical models for Poisson traffic are proposed for the throughput and delay. The proposed system’s performance is evaluated for a Single-Carrier with Frequency Domain Equalization (SCFDE) scheme, and compared to classical NDMA. H-NDMA parameter configuration is defined in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. 1 2

ARQ Diversity in Fading Random Access Channels
A cross-layer optimization approach is adopted for the design of symmetric random access wireless systems. Instead of the traditional collision model, a more realistic physical layer model is considered in our work. Based on this model, an Incremental Redundancy Automatic Repeat reQuest (IR-ARQ) scheme, tailored to jointly combat the effects of collisions, multi-path fading, and additive noise,...
متن کاملHARQ Systems: Resource Allocation, Feedback Error Protection, and Bits-to-Symbol Mappings
Reliability of data transmission is a fundamental problem in wireless communications. Fading in wireless channels causes the signal strength to vary at the receiver and this results in loss of data packets. To improve the reliability, automatic repeat request (ARQ) schemes were introduced. However these ARQ schemes suffer from a reduction in the throughput. To address the throughput reduction, ...
متن کاملPerformance of truncated type-II hybrid ARQ schemes with noisy feedback over block fading channels
This paper considers truncated type-II hybrid automatic repeat-request (ARQ) schemes with noisy feedback over block fading channels. With these ARQ techniques, the number of retransmissions is limited, and, similar to forward error correction (FEC), error-free delivery of data packets cannot be guaranteed. Bounds on the average number of transmissions, the average coding rate as well as the rel...
متن کاملTurbo ARQ Scheme for Packet Data Transmission in Power Line Communication Systems
In this paper, turbo ARQ scheme is proposed and simulated for a high-speed power line communication system. Packet error performance is substantially improved by increasing the number of iterations in the turbo decoding process and interleaver length of a turbo encoder. It is confirmed that the Type I hybrid ARQ with SI (soft information) performs better than Type I hybrid ARQ without SI becaus...
متن کاملCooperative ARQ: A Medium Access Control (MAC) Layer Perspective
Cooperative Automatic Retransmission reQuest (C-ARQ) schemes have become a very active research topic over the last years. C-ARQ schemes constitute a practical way of executing cooperation in wireless networks with already existing equipment. C-ARQ schemes exploit feedback from the receiver, i.e. cooperation is only executed when needed, and thus are sometimes referred to as cooperation on-dema...
